Could we Educate Children about their Food Choices?
We are born into a family where they have their own values of what real food is. We generally eat what we get served at home when we are children, which affects our food choices in the future. Therefore, it is important to educate people so that they can create their own opinions and understandings in relation to food. We must go in and break the picture of strangers’ diets and thus teach society about the different foods, as well as how to prepare them in the best possible way.
Why do we not educate people on diet? If you learn from childhood about diet composition, lifestyles, as well as the different foods and their imprint on the climate, then kids would grow up being more conscious about picking better foods. If we started implementing education about diet in schools, society would have a better understanding of how we can live more health-conscious while taking care of our own body and planet.
An idea for how to implement teaching about diets in primary school, can be done if we make a whole new subject, which can be called “Food Choices”. In this way children can learn about all kinds of diets, vegetables, as well as gain knowledge about what it means to live climate-friendly. Thus can children be able to develop their knowledge and understanding to make healthier choices in their future even if they have grown up in a family that is not so enlightened about health and the climate.
It would be nice if it could be possible to implement teaching about food choices in primary school because there are many who have a misconception of being plant-based. Many have adopted the idea that meat should be present in a meal. Many people think that a meal should include meat and dairy, but that is not necessary at all.
Living plant-based is a benefit for both, the climate, animal welfare, as well as one’s own health. Our society needs someone to take responsibility. We need to gain some more knowledge and understanding in health, animal welfare, and the climate. The way this can be done is if we start implementing teaching in primary school about the diet.
